This tour is suitable for travellers who have just a few days to visit northern Tanzania. Lake Manyara National Park, Located beneath the cliffs of the Manyara Escarpment, on the edge of the Rift Valley, has incredible birdlife and breathtaking views. The alkaline soda of Lake Manyara is home to an incredible array of birdlife that thrives on its brackish waters. The Ngorongoro Crater is the only place where one is assured of spotting the Big Five—lion, leopard, elephant, rhino and buffalo.

Tour Plan

Day 1: Arrival in Arusha

You'll be collected from the airport.
Accommodation before the tour starts can be arranged for an extra cost. On arrival at Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) or Arusha Airport (ARK) which caters to domestic flights, you will be met by an African Big Cats Safaris representative who will drive you to your accommodation in Arusha. Your overnight stay will be at the Ilboru Safari Lodge. It's a calm lodge located in the suburbs of the city with a natural set-up of beautiful gardens. Rest as you wait for your safari the following day.

Day 2: Lake Manyara National Park

After Breakfast will be served at the lodge and thereafter, drive west of Arusha and on to Lake Manyara National park with splendid views of the Great Rift Valley wall. Your first encounter will probably be spotting large troupes of baboons. The park is famous for its tree-climbing lions. You will visit Lake Manyara, an alkaline soda lake that is home to an incredible array of birdlife that thrives on its brackish waters. Pink flamingo stoops and graze by the thousands of colorful specks against the grey minerals of the lakeshore. Yellow-billed storks swoop and corkscrew on thermal winds rising up from the escarpment, and herons flap their wings against the sun-drenched sky. Even reluctant bird-watchers will find something to watch and marvel at within the national park. Hippos can also be spotted. You will have a packed lunch served at a picnic site. Late in the afternoon, continue for a short drive to the Ngorongoro Highlands. Dinner and your overnight stay will be at Eileen's Tree Inn.

Day 3: Ngorongoro Crater to Arusha

You'll have an early breakfast at the lodge then we'll head straight to the Ngorongoro Crater floor for a game drive. Lunch will be at the hippo pool picnic site. The bottom of the crater is dotted with watering holes, which shelter almost 30 000 animals in an area naturally enclosed by the slopes of the volcano. Ngorongoro is the largest unbroken caldera in the world and is surrounded by very steep walls rising 610m from the floor. Covering an area of 259 sq km, it is considered to be one of the eighth Wonders of the Natural World and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a veritable haven for wildlife. After an extensive game drive, we'll head straight back to Arusha which marks the end of your epic safari.
